Information for Newcomers
Newcomers come from a variety of places and times in their lives. Some are already UU’s coming to Naples as part time or full time residents. Others come from other faith communities and some have not been a part of a religious community for a long time. There are some who, as parents, are looking for a religious community whose religious education program will help guide them through moral mile posts as they explore the world and their place in it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I ARRIVE?
Upon arriving at the UUCGN you will be met in the lobby by one of our greeters who will ask you to fill out a name tag. You can pick up some literature and a recent newsletter in the lobby and can indicate upon sign in if you would like to receive our newsletter for a brief period.
WHAT IS THE WORSHIP SERVICE LIKE?
Our morning worship service is about one hour in length and the dress is “Florida casual.” The worship service includes music, hymns, readings and a sermon. Many of our parishioners attend our Sunday morning Forum before the service which features a speaker from either within the congregation or from the community at large to present a topic of current interest followed by questions and answers.
WHAT IF I BRING MY CHILDERN?
Children attend the worship service with their parents and will be asked to join the minister for a moment with her during the early part of the service after which they will move to their classrooms. If you will be attending with children, we suggest you arrive about one-half hour before the start of the service in order to meet our Religious Education Director as she would like to meet your children and show them and you where they will be located during the service.
DO YOU HAVE A TIME FOR SOCIALIZING?
We urge all guests to join with us after the service for coffee as we would like to become acquainted and to answer any questions you might have at that time.
WHAT ABOUT MEMBERSHIP?
After becoming comfortable with our congregation you may want to consider the UUCGN as your new church home by joining us in membership. Joining requires a visit with our minister before signing the membership book. A short time after signing the book you will be invited to attend an informal membership roundtable where you and other new members will meet some congregational leaders along with our minister. At that time you will have an opportunity to get to discuss your interests and talents and you will discover more fully what being a member of UUCGN will mean in your life. Of course, during the time you are visiting with us, you are welcome to attend any of our activities listed in our newsletter and order of worship.
