Of the 160 butterfly species in Florida about 20 have declined significantly with most found in South Florida
One of the butterflies with a serious reduction in population is the Monarch, which is now on the endangered list.
The Monarch's population has decreased as have other butterflies due to the loss of habitat, use of pesticides, disease and climate change-related weather patterns.
Pollinators, like butterflies are vital for strong healthy ecosystems as flowering plants produce breathable oxygen, help purify water, prevent erosion, and require pollination for reproduction. We can't live without them.
