Music & Worship Committee

Our goal is to provide worship services that are spiritually transformational, that engage the hearts and minds of ALL who come. We seek to make each service experience come together as a whole, smoothly connecting liturgy and music to create a rhythmic pacing that enhances the sermon’s intentions, and creates a worshipful mood of contemplation and meditation in our search for truth, justice, peace and love.

Update for Fall 2019:

Our congregation is the grateful recipient of a Steinway grand piano donated by a generous member.  The process began in May when Music Director Lan Lam was first invited to play the piano, as the member wanted to know that Lan would be happy with the instrument if it were to be donated.  The donation was made in early July and coordination of its repair, adjustment and moving began.  The piano was moved to the sanctuary on Tues., Aug. 20, and has been adjusted, refurbished and tuned by the piano technician.

The UUCGN Board of Trustees approved the sale of the current piano as we have no need to keep it, and the Sohmer piano has been sold to a buyer for $7000.  Funds will be used to pay for the needed work on the Steinway, a new cover, and moving expense.  The Sohmer will be moved from our sanctuary on Sept. 9th.  The Steinway is a 6-foot grand, O series built in 1908.  We are so grateful for this very generous donation and know that its sound will fill the sanctuary and be appreciated by all.

The Music Committee is making progress on the planning of public recitals for the 2019-2020 season in December and March.  We still must address raising funds for the Music Gift Fund which will help with the added expense of hiring occasional guest musicians for services.  Attention to this got deferred while the piano acquisition was going on this summer.
