Weekend Meals for School Kids
In the midst of comfort and affluence, many children in our local communities rely on school-supplied meals for their nutritional needs during the week but will not be assured of healthy meals on the weekends. In response to this need in our community, volunteers from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples (UUCGN) work closely with school counselors to identify children who would benefit from weekend food security.
Over the past six years, our program has grown from supporting a single elementary school to delivering weekend meals to supporting four schools during the school year in this our seventh year.
Our congregation does good work in helping to address the community’s needs. We ask for your support to continue the Weekend Meals Program by becoming a sponsor ($250 donation) or a co-sponsor ($125 donation) for a child or choose whatever contribution level you consider helpful. All donations are appreciated.
Click on the "Donate" button above or write a check payable to "UUCGN" with a memo field of
"W Meals." You can drop your check in the offering plate during Sunday service or at the church office.
We also invite members to become involved as we prepare the bags of food on Wednesday mornings and deliver the food to the schools on Thursday. Please consider volunteering your time to help these children. No child should go hungry! Thank you everyone!
We have enjoyed our summer off for 2019, and are ready to begin our 7th year of distributing meals to food insecure kids in Naples. Set up began Tuesday, August 20, and our first packing date was Wednesday, August 21. Write to the email address below for sign ups for Wednesday morning pick-and-packs and school deliveries.
